Big Rig on the Road – Kutztown Folk Festival

Every July Kutztown, PA throws a big party called the Kutztown Folk Festival. It celebrates the heritage of the Pennsylvania countryside in this part of the state -namely that of the Pennsylvania Dutch. The festival begins the weekend before the 4th of July and ends the weekend after the 4th of July.

It is an event not to be missed for anyone who enjoys folk-art. It has the atmosphere of a country fair, wonderful crafts and folk-art artisans, some farm animals and of course …… good food – how about an Oxtail Sandwich- YUM YUM , homemade ice cream – triple YUM , apple dumplings WITH vanilla ice cream – OH SO GOOD!

There is a large building that houses hand-made quilts (most of which were hand quilted). They are all for sale – those that are hanging around the room at the ceiling are auctioned on the last Saturday of the show.

In addition to the quilting demonstrations – there are many people exhibiting and demonstrating traditional crafts.

And if you are weary from walking around there are stages set-up around the festival where you can sit down, rest and enjoy some wonderful entertainment.

And if you get hungry – there is a wealth of homemade food to please your taste buds.

The dates for 2012 are June 30th – July 8th. I plan on going back – I hope to see some of you there.
