Design Wall Monday – Sept 26

Not much on my design wall today – I have had family visiting and haven’t been able to get to my machine or most of my fabric — but because of this limitation I have discovered a new obsession. English Paper Piecing!  Who knew these little hexagons could be so addictive and it is great to use up scraps of fabric – I am playing with 1 inch hexagons and they use a 2.5 inch square of fabric!

I have this one made out of some scraps of reproduction Baltimore Album fabric by Mary Koval for Windham Fabric. Not sure what I am going to do with this one and the others that are in progress. I don’t know that I will make a whole quilt out of them, but might create a little wall hanging.

Any of you do English Paper Piecing? What do you do with all of your creations?

Stop over to Judy’s Blog to see what everyone is doing.

  1. Hey John – do be careful as the hexies are wildly obsessive and contagious!! LOL!! I've got 2 projects going (one is diamonds and the other replicates the tile floor at work) and designs for at least 3 more. Once of my classes at IQF-Houston will even be on hexies! They are the best travel project for any spare 5 minutes.

  2. I started doing the little hexies in 3/4″ and then I joined the Inchy Hexagon Swap because they are so much fun to make. So, I have two sizes going and have no definite idea of just what I'm going to do with them! It may take me a few years to have enough to even do a small wall hanging.

  3. English paper piecing is addicting! I've been working on a little project for quite a while. I'm slow enough that I don't have to worry about too many things piling up. I did make an embroidery project last year that also used a few hexagons scattered in the corners – it added a nice texture to the piece. No reason they can be fit in with other piecing though.
