Well, the quilt has to be finished today for the first McCall’s Design Star Challenge (I have to have the picture in by midnight) and it is pretty much finished – here are a few shots of the quilt as it progressed.
In the end I went with Black and an Indigo form the Kona Solids – the Eggplant tended to gray down some of the colors.
Here are a few of the blocks (Sunrise, Sunset)
Here is how the blocks looked as they were being positioned for the final layout.
A close-up of some of the four-patch blocks
A close-up of the sewn top
A wide-shot of the top with all the blocks
BUT – this isn’t the finished top – because it isn’t finished yet!!! Really, it’s true I still need to add a little something – stop back on Wednesday for the FINAL quilt top – and also a look at were I started with the design and how I got to the final result!
All of the colored fabrics are from the Fizz collection by Patrick Lose from Kaufman Fabrics -the solids are all Kona Solids (Robert Kaufman).
Stop by Judy’s blog to see what everyone else is doing
And – mark your calendars voting begins on WEDNESDAY!!! September 15

As for a pattern being published – that most likely will happen – I need to check with the folks at McCall's to see what the ground rules are for quilt designs that were entered in the competition. So, stay tuned – I will let you know as soon as I know!

love those bright colors — the design is great — very fluid. I was wondering how you were going to connect those blocks together.

I love that. With the black and white four patches, it somehow reminds me of roads. It would make a fun boys quilt.

Love the addition of the 4 patch. It pulls it all together. Now I want to make one! Will you be publishing the pattern?
Good luck in the contest. I plan on voting early. And often!
